Leading wellbeing researcher joins Embrace

Associate Professor Jeneva Ohan will co-lead research in Embrace's childhood trauma group.

Leading youth mental health academic Associate Professor Jeneva Ohan has joined Embrace @ The Kids Research Institute Australia in a move that will help shape the future of research within the Institute.

A/Prof Ohan will co-lead research on childhood trauma and intergenerational trauma, as well as carrying out research on child and parent wellbeing.

“Parents really are that number one advocate, number one supporter, and number one carer for their child,” A/Prof Ohan said.

“We really need to support the parent in addition to the child to ensure young Aussie children are on an optimal trajectory, and the family is flourishing.”

Also the director of clinical psychology at UWA, A/Prof Ohan will share her time between both roles.

“Day-to-day it’s quite hard to devote the time, space and resources to research when you have multiple responsibilities as an academic. The funding from this Embrace position is what enables me to support this research to get off the ground, so the group can extend beyond childhood trauma into childhood and family wellbeing.”

“I’ve been particularly focussed on research with parents and children from marginalised communities for many years now. This role will enable me to do more of that and expand more broadly into the family wellbeing space.”

Embrace is supported by its principal partner, Rio Tinto.
