Mental health podcast Embracing the Mind has won an award at the WA Mental Health Awards this World Mental Health Day.

The Embrace podcast took home the News & Media Award for its three-part investigative series into the impacts of childbirth trauma.

The episodes were nominated for the WAAMH-sponsored award for raising awareness and helping parents to heal from birth trauma, highlighting the need for mental health support for parents. Mothers with lived experience of topics such as still birth to post-partum psychosis shared their stories in raw and heartfelt conversations with host Dr Alix Woolard.

“We started this podcast so we could share stories of lived experience, so this award is a testament to the resilience of our incredible guests,” Dr Woolard said.

The podcast, which recently released its third season on women’s health and wellbeing, has previously hosted experts, researchers, and people with lived experience of a mental health topic. One of these guests was Rachael Burns, a youth mental health advocate, founder of Integrity Initiative, and an Embrace community member.

Rachael was also nominated at the WA Mental Health Awards, after recently winning in the Community Leadership category at the WA Youth Awards 2025.
