Last week, Embrace hosted a free webinar on the ways kids - and parents - can be supported during a hospital visit.
Facilitated by Embrace and Healing Kids, Healing Families (HKHF) Co-Director Professor Jeneva Ohan, the panel featured HKHF Project Officer Amanda Zaffino, lived experience advocate Tracey Jewel Constable, and Keeping Kids in No Distress (KKIND) Senior Occupational Therapist and Coordinator Gillian Griffiths.
Tracey recounted her experiences of regular hospital visits with a neurodivergent child, Gillian offered advice on the supports available at Perth Children's Hospital, and Amanda discussed new research seeking to improve trauma-informed care in hospitals.
The webinar follows the launch of the Embrace-funded Understanding children and families' hospital experiences project. This work focuses on identifying practical ways to provide trauma-informed care for children and families visiting the hospital.
Recruitment for this project is expected to begin later this year.
