Cultural safety findings

Find the preliminary findings from our cultural safety project here

In 2022, we began an Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF)-back project to investigate the cultural safety of mental health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.

This project identified the requirements of cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families.

Click on the report's front cover below to read preliminary findings, including recommendations for mainstream child and adolescent mental health services, from this project.

In late 2026, we will release guidelines to support the implementation of these findings. Ultimately, we hope that the findings of this project will transform the current mental health system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth and reduce mental health issues among this group.
